Vale Conhecer

The Vale Conhecer subprogram encompasses training, instruction, and learning actions, in or out of school.

It is divided into two complementary macro-processes, which include heritage education to the public schools of Ouro Preto and Mariana as well as training actions for several other areas.

Heritage Education for the school community

Meetings for Teachers Training  [+]

Meetings for Teachers Training

The purpose of the Meetings for Teachers Training is to insert heritage education into the school curriculum. The classes develop the concepts of heritage education and project preparation through dialogues.

The meetings are planned based on the experiences of the previous meetings, introducing new concepts and rediscussing those that need more time to be worked on and set, so that teachers can truly incorporate such knowledge.

The action-reflection-action methodology guides the meetings preparation. Using this dynamic approach as a pedagogical resource, the teachers have an opportunity to exchange experiences and consolidate the concepts they have discussed.

Mini-Courses [+]

Mini-Courses

The purpose of the Heritage Education Mini-Courses is to promote the discussion and consolidation of the concepts of Heritage Education among the board of schoolteachers, giving them the opportunity to experience activities and build pedagogical strategies using the heritage education kit created by Trem da Vale Heritage Educational Program.

All students and teachers from the schools at which the mini-courses are offered, receive a heritage education kit containing a sticker album, a memory game, jig-saw puzzles, a scale model, a field notebook, and a heritage education reader, together with other playful material.

Heritage Education Forum [+]

Heritage Education Forum

The 1st Heritage Education Forum, held in October 2007, provided an important, reflective space for presenting the activities that had been developed in the schools and creating new work possibilities in the Heritage Education.

Furthermore, the event consolidated the work developed during the Meetings for Teachers Training as it allowed educators to show their activities in their respective classrooms.

Intercity Heritage Education Show [+]

Intercity Heritage Education Show

The Intercity Heritage Education Show, within the scope of the Heritage Educational Program, is offered as the climax of the Meetings for Teachers Training. The projects developed by the educators during the meetings are presented to the communities of Ouro Preto and Mariana, together with other school-related activities within the heritage education field.

Inspired by the traditional regional Science Fairs, the show stimulates the involvement of teenagers and facilitates the exchange of ideas, projects, and solutions to heritage and environmental issues between both historical cities.

In addition to the exhibition of works and projects, popular manifestations and live workshops with local craftsmen were offered at the 1st Intercity Show. The 2nd Intercity Show received over 800 visitors and three projects were granted the resources for their execution.

Education in Cultural and Natural Heritage

Environmental Education

The purpose of the Environmental Education activities is to arouse and develop in both children and teenagers attitudes of respect, appreciation and effective actions towards Natural Heritage preservation along with Cultural Heritage, thus reinforcing the city’s importance as a World Cultural Heritage site

Musical Education

Activities in the musical area are focused on practicing, meditation, and listening related to the region’s musical diversity, public formation and sensitizing through composition and performance.

Reading Incentive Plan

The activities sponsored by the Reading Incentive Plan encourage the community to visit both the area and the Mariana Station Library. The reading of literary patrimonies is stimulated by workshops, storytelling, reading circuits, letter writing, soirée, video exhibition and thematic exhibits.

All of these activities are for the advantage of APAES, senior citizens, Mental Health groups and, mainly public schools.
