Vale Promover
The Vale Promover subprogram is one of the actions included in the activities developed by Trem da Vale Heritage Educational Program.
It encompasses the advertisement and promotion of both cultural and natural heritage of the region through educational and interpretive activities, as well as the creation of a wide range of informative material regarding cultural and natural heritage.
It also involves activities aimed at mobilizing the communities and articulating with social movements and with the cities’ cultural institutions and organizations.
Vale Promover develops activities for Ouro Preto and Mariana population as well as visitors from all over the country and abroad. It includes the following programs:
- Sensory Trail

Sensory Trail
The Sensory Trail leads the participant through Ouro Preto’s natural and constructed scenery, sharpening the senses and perception so as to amplify the experience while traveling along the route.
Cultural and historical information highlight both physical and sensory qualities of the sites, encouraging identification with them, and awakening feelings as for the heritage.
The Trail further associates this legacy with the identity and affective memory of the residents and tourists. Therefore, it is an efficient instrument of heritage education, appreciating the sites, and promoting a strong integration with the environment, as well as encouraging conservational attitudes.
This program is open to both visitors and local population on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays for previously scheduled groups of 15 people.

- Diversified Circuits

Diversified Circuits
The Diversified Circuits are activities designed to present cultural and natural heritage through museographic contents and exhibition spaces in anchor stations, where educational and informative activities are performed.
The purpose of this program is to dynamically and playfully make students from the public school system more aware of local cultural and natural heritage issues, through educational actions and entertaining activities.
The idea is to encourage the responsible and committed behavior regarding the daily environment, in addition to arousing affection for the heritage legacy as well as conservational attitudes during the practice of citizenship.
The educational program consists of a round-trip train ride, a guided tour through educational and cultural equipment installed in anchor-stations, and participation in workshops:
Ouro Preto
- Acoustical Milieu Car: musical performance or preparation of musical instruments;
- UFOP’s Museography Room, Railway scale model, video projection, oral history narratives, multimedia kiosks, and history posters of both Ouro Preto and Mariana;
- During the train ride: Environmental Education workshop.
Mariana
- Playground – Music Square;
- Railway Car of the Senses – artistic film exhibition about the Baroque Period, Mining, Everybody’s Railway Car;
- Station Library – video collection, art and history magazine and book collection, multimedia kiosk;
- Multipurpose Room/Oral History Room: Heritage Education;
- During the train ride: Environmental Education workshop.
Students and teachers from the public school system in Ouro Preto and Mariana are the target public.
The Diversified Circuits are offered in three different formats appropriate to the public demand:
Ouro Preto and Mariana Public Schools
This program is offered on Thursdays (morning and afternoon) provided that a previous schedule is confirmed.
The students from Mariana and their teachers depart for Ouro Preto and visit the Cidadania Station – Ouro Preto, whereas the students from Ouro Preto and their teachers depart for Mariana and visit the Parque Station – Mariana.

Public and private schools in Ouro Preto – Stations Circuit
This program is offered for groups of up to 40 students, on Wednesdays (morning and afternoon), provided that a previous schedule is confirmed.
It can be noticed that, in the Ouro Preto and Mariana public school circuit, as the students and teachers from Ouro Preto can go the station in the neighboring city, the stations circuit offers the group from Ouro Preto an opportunity to visit the spaces in their own station as well, namely the Cidadania Station – Ouro Preto.
In this station, students and teachers visit and take part in the activities using the following equipment: Acoustical Milieu Car; Heritage Education in UFOP rooms, the Railway Scale Model, Video Projection, Oral History Narrations, multimedia kiosks, and history posters.

Public and private schools from other regions – Pedagogical Tourism
Students who visit Ouro Preto to practice pedagogical tourism and take a ride on the steam locomotive are the target public of this kind of diversified circuit.
The purpose is to use this trip to provide a guided visit to museographic spaces linked to contents related to the historical cities which they have studied in class.
Community Circuit
The Community Circuit is directed to organized association groups of Ouro Preto, Mariana and neighboring towns. In addition to free rides in the steam train, the activity includes monitored visits within Trem da Vale area.
For the group to participate it has to be scheduled by the association into one of the four following available timetables - 8:45 am, 11:30 am, 2:15 pm and 5 pm - through the phone (31) 3551-7310. The participation in the Community Circuit is free of charge and openings are limited to 300 participants.

Energizers
Two theatrical characters interact with the visitors at the boarding ramps of Ouro Preto and Mariana Stations aimed at stimulating anchor-station visitors and Maria Fumaça train passengers to visit the museographic exhibits and the station’s thematic cars. The actors, dressed in early 20th century costumes, provide information about the circuit and the Trem da Vale Patrimonial Education Program; they also distribute folders about the project’s exhibits and deliver fortune messages by means of a barrel organ and puppets.

Cultural Guide
In addition to providing visitors with basic, useful information, the Mariana-Passagem de Mariana-Ouro Preto Cultural Guide unveils new perspectives and interesting facts about these important historical cities in Minas Gerais. Thus, a distinguished approach is used aimed at appreciating the communities’ view with regard to their heritage.
The Guide includes information about the region’s cultural assets, in a very communicative and objective approach, and takes into account the daily life and customs of these cities.
The main thrust of the research also considered the religious and civil architecture with its respective surroundings.
The available itineraries are an invitation to a rich cultural journey through the inexhaustible flavors and delights that can be found in these historical centers.
