Aboard the Train Libraries

Friday January 28th, 2011

The Trem da Vale Children’s Libraries have been established as spaces of promoting readership, offering the local community cultural activities such as saraus, circuits, workshops, and literary expositions.

In 2010, Mariana Library received the Professora Etelvina Lima medal for recognition in promoting readership by the Regional Library Science Council.

There are over 6,100 books in the collection, as well as periodicals, magazines, games and DVDs. Among the important titles are Suzy Lee’s Onda, considered by The New York Times as one of the best illustrated books for children, and Fernando Vilela’s Lampião & Lancelote, winner of the Best Children’s Book Jabuti Prize.

All this material is available to the community. To borrow books, just sign up at one of the Station Libraries with ID, CPF, a 3×4 photo, and proof of residence.

Children and teenagers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult (with their documents).
