The Program
The Trem da Vale Heritage Educational Program encompasses a well-structured, diversified, and integrated set of powerful cultural actions focused on learning, recognizing, and appreciating the cultural and natural heritage of the cities of Ouro Preto and Mariana.
Restoration
In addition to revitalizing the 18-kilometer railway stretch that runs between both cities and all stations along the way – Ouro Preto, Mariana, Vitorino Dias, and Passagem de Mariana – the program also brought back the traditional steam locomotive to the tracks.
In its two years of existence, the Trem da Vale Heritage Educational Program has provided service to around 370, 000 people, through its courses, workshops, events, and other activities, in addition to its train service and visits to the stations’ cultural spaces.
Furthermore, it has directly employed 100 professionals – all of whom interact directly or indirectly with the actions of the Program, which is based on promoting the historical-cultural legacy of the local towns.
