Back to school on the rails of Trem da Vale!

Friday January 28th, 2011

Now that the school vacations are over, it’s time for students and teachers of public schools in Ouro Preto, Mariana and the surrounding region to get prepared for another busy school year.

In 2011, Trem da Vale is going to continue Circuito Rede de Ensino, an action of Vale Promover that gives students of those schools free train rides and guided visits to the Stations.

This initiative promotes learning through contact with the region’s cultural and heritage artifacts, giving the students cultural and educational leisure options. In 2010, over 40 schools were in the program, with a total of 2,971 students and 321 teachers. For 2011, we expect more than 4,500 students.

In Ouro Preto, children can visit the Library Car, the Environmental Sound Car, the Railway Model Room, the Cultural Tent, and UFOP Room. In Mariana, the Station Library, with over 4,000 books, the Music and Play Square, the Sensory Car, the Multimedia Hall, the Multi-purpose Room and the Centro Atlântica Railway (FCA) workshop, where rail equipment is repaired.

Schools interested in participating in the Circuito Rede de Ensino should contact Project Trem da Vale by phone:

Ouro Preto Station: (31) 3551.7310

Mariana Station: (31) 3558.3104.
