Mais Cultura in Trem da Vale
Wednesday March 16th, 2011To popularize reading materials, stimulate reading habits, and incite critical thinking. Under that directive, the federal government has invested approximately 5 million reais to distribute quality printed periodical material to over 7,000 Culture Points, Reading Points and Public Libraries of the Mais Cultura Program.
According to the executive coordinator of the program, Silvana Meireles, they seek to offer “different languages and formats to satisfy different publics, from newspapers to Brazilian and world classics of literature.”
From February 2011 to January 2012, the children libraries of Ouro Preto and Mariana stations will receive, free of charge, the following publications: Brasileiros, Cult, Viração, Rolling Stone, Raça Brasil, Piauí, Carta na Escola, Fórum, Le Monde Diplomatique Brasil, Caros Amigos, as well as Jornal Rascunho and Almanaque Brasil de Cultura Popular.

These publications reinforce and make the libraries collections (with more than 6,100 titles) more dynamic, and will be made available to the public soon. To borrow books, a library card is required, which can be made with a 3×4 photo, ID, CPF and proof of residence. If you are under the age of 18, the presence of a parent or legal guardian is required.
Library hours: Tuesday to Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
